If a problem occurs with the Free™ loudspeaker try browsing the support section on this website and consulting the user manual. If this does not solve your problem, or you require more general advice and user tips, please contact your supplier.

What are they?

- Wireless digital loudspeakers

So what?

- They are the first high-quality multiroom audio system you can take with you when you move

How do they work?

- The speakers receive (preferably) lossless audio signals using 802.11 (WiFi). You need to have your music stored digitally on a computer or NAS drive, and sent wirelessly using Sonos™ or iTunes™ (which could be driven by Apple™ Front Row™ )

Is this all you'll do?

- These are the first of a range, although you won't see any other models for at least six months, then on-wall/bookshelf units, and in-wall models will be launched

What finishes can I have them in?

- We're just doing the floorstanding units in satin white and satin black until later this year, then a single wood finish will follow

Do they look good?

- They are very simple indeed, and beautifully detailed with no visible connections on the cabinet. None. Not even on the back

How come?

- This is because all the connections are recessed into the base

What connections are there?

- An IEC (kettle-lead) mains socket and fuseholder
- RJ45 network connection which you could use if you wanted to wire one of the Sonos™ units, or plug an Airport Express™ in as a wireless access point
- An additional audio input (stereo phono pair) which you could use for a local input if you have a Sonos™ system
- A link connection if you don't mind wiring between the speakers, which would save you money.

Are they reliable?

- Absolutely. We offer a 2-year guarantee. - If there's a power cut they'll come up again working fine. - The digital amplifier runs very cool

Practically, does the wireless work OK?

- We've achieved excellent range between speakers in real buildings
- 20 or 30m, especially using Sonos™ mesh network ZP80s
- Because the Sonos™ system acts as a mesh network, it should work without any problems in most homes
- There are ways of bridging wirelessly between areas if needed
- You can always use the Ethernet connection to occasional speakers if needed
- We make no guarantees about wireless performance but your Free dealer can help you decide, or perform a WiFi survey.

What other arcane computer trickery do I need to make these crazy things work?

- Ha ha! Very good! Actually all you need for Airport Express is a Wi-Fi capable computer running iTunes™
- All you need for Sonos™ is a wired network connection to one Sonos™ unit (which may or may not be in a speaker) and a live internet connection during set-up.

Can I only listen to my recorded CDs and other digital music?

- With both Sonos™ and Apple™ you can listen to internet radio stations too, and in some countries you can subscribe to on-line services such as Rhapsody™

Any advantages to using Sonos™ ?

- You can listen to the regular line up of BBC radio stations (if you're in the UK)
- The Sonos™ version has an additional input (accessible in all rooms) per loudspeaker. This might be your record player, iPod™ , sound from the TV, Playstation™ etc.

Any advantages of Apple™ Airport Express™ ?

- Yes, you can hear anything you've purchased online from the iTunes music store, which you can't yet do with Sonos™

Can I build up a system around my whole home, and listen to different music in each room if I wish?

- Yes, we've run 16 pairs to make a complete multi-room audio system, using Sonos™

Can I have the same sound playing throughout, and dance from room to room without skipping a beat?

- Sure, with both Sonos™ and Apple™ , and set relative levels for each room, with an overall volume control if you want

Can I use them outside?

- They're not waterproof, but if you’ve RCD-protected power in the garden, you could take them as far as your WiFi works.

I'm forgetful, can you summarise please?

- Sure. They allow you to have a wonderfully simple and truly fantastic sounding multiroom audio system, that requires no pre-wiring, is easy to expand, and you can take your investment with you whenever you move (they can even be switched between 115 and 230volts)
